"Man, today is going to go great. I just know it." Dwayne says as he carries groceries home for his parents. Today is Thanksgiving and he always spent it with his family every year, but today was going to be different; his parents are both too busy to spend thanksgiving with him. Both of them have their own jobs to go to and were not able to skip it out for the holidays. His parents decided to give him $450 dollars to use for the thanksgiving dinner. Dwayne was saddened at the thought but there was nothing he can do about. Besides, now he gets the choice to bring others to his home for thanksgiving and to impress the girl of his dreams, Kelly. "Oh dear old Kelly." Dwayne thinks to himself as he walks to his home.
Kelly was the most beautiful girl in his high school and every person who went there knew it. Every guy would go gaga over her and the girls were envious of her beauty, talent and her personality. She was the sweetest girl that Dwayne has ever met oh boy oh my. Kelly would have her hair pinned up, her lipstick spot on and her outfit would stand out nicely to the crowd. She would walk with two others girls, chatting their hearts away about boys and makeup. Between the other girls, she would walk like a queen with grace in her every step.
He would get lucky if she just notice his face, oh he would get so excited. So excited that he accidentally asked her to spend thanksgiving with him for the holidays after sputtering like a dog. Dwayne thought he was acting cool but ended up sounding like a fool. However, Kelly found that cute and decided to join him for the holidays. When she said yes, Dwayne spring up with joy and ran away. He regrets running away and sound has said something instead but who cares. The hottest girl in the world, Kelly was coming to his house on Thanksgiving, in his house and he was not going to waste any chances with it.
Dwayne makes it home and struggles to find his keys. He mumbles a bit though it sounded like gibberish. He digs into his pockets, trying to get his keys without dropping the groceries. After a bit though, he finds his keys and sighs. "Good to be home." Dwayne says as he enters his home. He walks into his nice and modern home. The floors were made out of oak wood and the red couch was nice and soft. There were two tables in the living room. One of the tables had a bowl in the middle, filled with fake fruits to make it look more appealing. The other table had a TV on top of it that was behind the table with the fruits. The walls were white as snow and the windows flutter away. The curtains were red like a strawberry that swayed away as the windows flutter.
Dwayne drops his groceries on the table and the bowl fell to the ground. He jumps for the moment and sees that the fruits dropped out of the bowl. He brushes it off quickly though, seeing that it was not a big deal. He picks up the bowl and the fruits. He puts the fruits back into the bowl and moves the bowl into the kitchen. After doing that, he goes into the kitchen and gets a snack. “Man, he was hungry after all of that walking and needed something delicious to eat.” as he hears his stomach growls. He looks inside his fridge and sees a bag filled with red apples, was going to take one until he discovers something more tasty to eat. He pushes the bag back and gets a delicious piece of cake instead. He grabs a piece of the cake. On the chocolate cake, there was white creamy frosting with brown sprinkles.
His licks his lips as his stomach growls louder. He quickly closes the fridge and goes to the living room table to eat. He had time to eat before the holidays started so he wasn't worried about ruining his Thanksgiving dinner at all. Dwayne was a man that can do anything. “No help is the best help in Dwayne’s world.” as he thinks of this while he eats his cake. He gets up and goes back to the fridge to get a cup of milk. He quickly opens the jug, grabs a cup and pours the milk into the cup. He puts the jug back inside and sits back in the table. He decide to turn on his TV in his living room, but he needed to look for the remote. He takes a while before he finds the remote and turns on the TV. He watches a bunch of cartoons to pass by the time. He laughs at the jokes made on the show as he drinks the milk, which causes him to spill milk out of his nose and cough loudly. He goes back into the kitchen to get some napkins and wipes himself clean. He throws away the dirty napkins in the trash and went back watching his show.
It is 6 pm and Dwayne barely started to cook the special meal. He was in a tizzy. He procrastinated for too long and now was rushing to finish his special meal with Kelly. Normally, he would have his mother’s assistance in order to make the Thanksgiving dinner, but this time she was not here. He ignores his thoughts and cooks with the groceries he had. He had bought materials to make a pumpkin pie, cranberry sauce, gravy, mashed potatoes, canned corn, canned peas and the tu- He forgot to buy the turkey! Dwayne drops everything on the spot and rushes out the door. Forgetting to shut the door or to turn off the fire, Dwayne grabs his keys and goes out to find a turkey.
Dwayne is panicking and so many thoughts rush through his mind. "Oh no, oh no! I forgot to get the main important meal! The turkey oh god no! " He keeps panicking as he goes to many different stores, trying to find the turkey, but no luck. The more stores he goes to, the more worried he becomes. He tries to keep it cool, like a smooth relaxed womanizer who can any lady with a snap of his finger. Obviously it was not working out too well. His hands started to sweat like crazy and his face was started to shine. He takes off his cap to wipe off the sweat from his face. Then he put his cap back on and goes on to another grocery store where he picked up a magazine and started to read off of it. Dwayne knew it was not the time to procrastinate more than he already did, but decides to read the magazine anyways, so he can have something to distract him from his problem. In the magazine, some men were picking up iron to construct a building while other men were cementing the ground. Throughout the pages he sees how the building is made and at the end of the section, he sees the complete structure of the building. It was high, big and it had a fancy glow towards the tip of the building. This image had made his eyes glowed with interest and decides to buy the magazine. He knew that he had more than enough money to buy the turkey and the magazine from himself. He carries the magazine and starts to read more of it, his eyes more focused on the book than the aisles that he was walking in.
Meanwhile, Kelly was walking around, looking for something to bring over to a place she got invited too. She did not wanted to be rude and she thought it will be a nice gift to bring as a thank you for inviting her over. She looks around the sweets aisle and notices a nice pile of brownies. She smiles to herself and decides to buy it for Thanksgiving. It was not much, but it looks like something that someone would bring over. Kelly also decides to get herself some wine as well since she thought it tastes good while eating something fancy. She walks slowly to the wine aisle, making sure that no one was looking and picks up a wine bottle. As she was carrying her brownies and wine, she turns and sees a kid reading a magazine. She leaves the kid alone and was going to turn to an aisle that was filled with spices.
Dwayne was reading the magazine, now totally forgetting about the turkey, was just walking around the aisles. Reading until he was done with the book so he does not have to buy it. However, while Dwayne was making a turn, he bumps into a teen girl that was carrying some brownies and some wine. The bump causes the girl to bump into the spices and the spices fell on her. She covers herself which makes her let go of the items she was carrying. The wine makes a loud crashing sound as it falls to the ground, which cause it to spill everywhere. He drops the book and notices the teen on the floor was the girl he was going to meet up with later that night was covered in spices and wine. Other customers at the store notice and stared at the both of them. A duo leaves the scene and calls a worker from the store to clean up the mess. Kelly and Dwayne stare at each other. One with anger while the other one confused.
Dwyane did not know what to do, so he did the first thing on his mind. "Oh Kelly! I-I-I am so sor- " He offers to pick her up and Kelly takes his hand unwillingly. Both still staring at each other, with an uneasy and quiet vibe. The other customers had stopped looking at them and went back doing their own thing. Once Kelly was picked up, she slaps his face. Dwayne gets hit and holds his hand against the stinging pain that ran to his face. “He deserved it,” Kelly thinks to herself, being angry at him for what he did and was embarrassed about the whole thing. He frowned at the whole situation, thinking that it was an accident and it was not his fault that he did not see her coming. However, even though he felt like that, he felt bad. Probably from the stringing of the slap, but he decides to make it up with her. "I'm sorry Kelly. I did not notice you there and I should had payed more attention to where I was walking." He looks away nervously and holds his wrists tight. "Is there any way I can make it up to you...after you know after this whole mess?" He smiles nervously for a second before frowning. “Man, I messed it up really bad” Dwayne says to himself, quietly and waiting for an answer from Kelly.
She stares at Dwayne for the moment, not knowing whether to accept his offer or not. She was still angry at him, but....he admitted that he was the one that did not see he was going. She should had poked his shoulder or told him something too, to notice her in the way. She thinks about it and just grabs his hand. Dwayne blushes not understanding what she was doing. Kelly and Dwayne leaves the spice aisle and she leads the way. She knew how he can make it up to her and she was just leading him there. They walk for a bit, both of them being quiet. He became extremely nervous because of the awkward silence so he starts up a conversation. He saids "Kelly? Not to be rude or anything but where are you taking me?", he says while raising his index finger up. Kelly ignores his question. He becomes more confused and asks his question again. "Uh, Kelly? I am not sure what you are trying to do but I have to ask again where are you tak-" Kelly finally stops at the area that she was looking for and Dwayne got the answer to his question. They were at the flower aisle, seeing many different types of beautiful flowers out there and all were for an expensive price.
Kelly lets go of his hand, looks at him, and then smiles nicely as she tilts her head. "I would like you to buy me the most expensive flowers here, so we can forget that this whole embarrassing incident happened. Will you be fine with that Sweety?" Dwayne blushes, he thinks to himself “God, that smile was so cute.” He couldn't say no, not at all, but he wishes the flowers were cheaper, so much. He goes to the cash register and tries to play it coolly.
"Hello there, how can I help you?" The cash register asks Dwayne.
Dwayne gives a coy look at the cash register, takes off his hat for a moment and slicks his hair back. "Give me the best and the most expensive flowers that you got so that I, can give them here to the most lovely girl that came off from this planet. "
Kelly smiles back to them silently and Dwayne becomes more nervous that she did not give him the reaction he wanted. He looks at her for a quick second before looking back at the cash register. He chuckles happily at the boy's request. "One batch, coming right up." The man says as he goes and gets what the teen boy asked for. While, the man gets the flowers, Kelly walks up to Dwayne and giggles. "You were pretty cute back there, you know that?" She smiles at him as he pinches his cheeks. Dwayne blushes like crazy, losing all of his cool factor as he gives off a goofy grin. " Hehe, thanks."
The man came back with the flowers that blossomed out so nicely. It was a 100 premium long stem red roses that came with a nice clear vase but the clearness was covered from the stems of the roses. Kelly holds her hands happily at those flowers while Dwayne stares at them. He looks down for the moment before taking a gulp and asking, "So how much will it be sir? $10? $20?" He chuckles as he happily places $20 bucks into the counter, however the cash register guy was not impressed and gives out a bigger grin which in return made Dwayne nervous. "This batch will cost $350 dollars sir.", he says as he stares at the teen. While Dwayne mouth dropped on how ridiculously expensive these cliche flowers are. He looks around, hoping there was some sympathy in Kelly to make him buy cheaper flowers but nope. She just stares at him, waiting for him to pay. He chuckles nervously and gulps, now the cash register becoming impatient.. Dwayne looks at his pocket and had enough for it, but this means that he was barely going to have enough for the turkey. He sighs in defeat and pays the $350 and carries the flowers. Dwayne said his thanks to the guy and left the store with Kelly, even though they both knew that Dwayne's thanks was not sincere.
As Kelly held her $350 flowers and Dwayne mentally sulking about the amount of money lost. He couldn't believe that he wasted most of it on a couple of flowers that he could had easily stolen from a neighbor. Kelly was pretty happy about his choice though and cherished the flowers deeply, knowing exactly where she was going to put them once she got home. Kelly looks at him and sees that his mind was bothered about something, she had a feeling what it was but ignores it. She decides to hold his hand. Dwayne blushes, feeling so giddy about this even though this was the 2nd time that she hold his hand. Dwayne was about to speak up until Kelly interrupts him. "Thank you so much for these lovely flowers. They are so beautiful and I am glad that you were willingly spend all that money on me. " Dwayne keeps a smile on his face but deep in his mind, he would had not spent that much on her and wants his money back. "I forgive you for what you have done and I will make it up for you once we have our thanksgiving meal." Dwayne shivers up, excited for what she had in plan for him and the fact that they were going to do something at his ho- His home! He had forgotten to close the doors and turn off the fire from his house! Oh man, he was so screwed. He holds Kelly's hand tighter and ran, dragging her along. Kelly gets shocked and holds the flowers and his hand tight, "Dwayne? Where are you going!?" Dwayne ignores her and continues to run. Kelly keeps asking her question, becoming more confused by the minute. She struggles to hold her flowers and his hand while Dwayne kept his pace.
Once the two out of breath teens reached to Dwayne's house, Kelly lets go of his hand. He runs to his house, while she was at the doorstep taking a breather before she went into the house. Luckily for Dwayne, nothing bad had happened. It seemed that one of his parents came home early enough to stop the fire from happening, but the food and stove was brunt. Nothing in the home seemed to be stolen and everything looks in order from the last time he was in here. Whoever seem to arrived in his house had also forgotten to lock the door once they left, but they also left the house nice and tidy and brought over some food. At the living the for was set out, everything was set out in place and the house looked brand new. He had a feeling that his mother was probably the person who came home to fix his mess and he has to remind himself to thank her later.
He sees that most of the food was done, but the turkey was still missing. It seems that even after his mother came home, she assumed that her boy had the turkey all done. Even if, she did find out that he did not have the turkey, she definitely would had not have time to cook the damn thing. Dwayne just stares at his kitchen table and sighs, seeing that he all forgot about the turkey. He had no idea how he was able to get the thing, let alone cook the bird in time for them to eat. He goes back to the living room and sees that Kelly had taken a seat on the couch, trying to remove the spices from her clothing. The flowers were safely place on the the corner of the couch. Dwayne goes up to his room quickly and finds his mother's old clothing. He takes his mother’s dark green dress and heads back downstairs with them. "Change into this, you can change into the bathroom upstairs. " Kelly stares at the clothes for the moment before going upstairs to change. She takes her time changing her clothes and making herself look presentable with the makeup that she did had on her. Kelly takes a look in the mirror as she fixes herself up. She had to look her absolute best for herself, and the fact that she was at someone's home. She looks at the clothes that Dwayne gave her and gives an awkward frown. She was not a big fan of the dress, but there was nothing else for her to wear.
Dwayne sighs and decides to go out once more to get the turkey. He will make sure that he is more careful and not distracted anymore. He knew that Kelly was going to be in the bathroom for a while and decide to take the opportunity to cover up his mistake. He fixes himself up quickly, takes his keys and make sure that everything was in place this time. He slowly closes the door and heads off once again, running his heart out once more. He goes back to the market where he bought the flowers from and ignores the cash register nasty grin. He goes to the meat aisle and tries to find the turkey.
The duo that went to get the worker earlier had decided to clean the mess themselves since the worker was taking way too long to get there. It look a while and they had decided to taste some of the wine.
“Shame that it was destroyed because, man that was delicious, the brown haired college student exclaimed, Even with all the spices mixed with it, gave a nice weird flavor that they both enjoyed.
The short black haired college student told his friend “ Knock it off, Gerry. You already have too much wine in your system.”A taller brown haired college student kept drinking it though.
"Gerry, how many times that I gotta tell you? Stop drinking like that. It's gonna kill you some day."
"Pete. It's fine. Nothing bad is going to happen to me, drinking not going to be the end of me buddy." Gerry wipes his mouth and throws the rest of the damage stuff away, cleaning up the mess.
Once they were done cleaning up the mess, Pete checks on his list for the groceries they needed for their Thanksgiving.
"Okay, so we got mashed potatoes, corn, pumpkin pie, sweet potatoes, gravy, cranberry sauce right?"
Gerry has his cart and grabs the items that Pete says to him. Each time Pete mentioned an item, Gerry grabs it and throws it in the cart carelessly. "Check, check, check, check, check, check."
"Cauliflower, ham, croissants, chicken, steak, pecan pie, apple pie?"
"Yup, yeah, yes, yup and totally." He says as he throws more of the foods that Pete mentioned to the cart.
"Green beans, pop tarts, candied yams, apple cider, wine, beer, vodka?"
Gerry grins widely as he throws the rest of the food in the cart but carefully, and gracefully places the drinks at the side of the cart. "All them there, Petey old Pete.
Pete frowns at Gerry for the moment as he sees the cart and chuckles. " I think we barely have anything in this cart. Want to see who can collect the most items?"
Gerry gives a devilish grin and creates a better idea. "Want to see who can create the best Thanksgiving dinner ever even though we are the only ones coming?"
Pete jumps up and accepts Gerry's challenge and heads off to get his own cart. "Hey! You're cheating!" Gerry says as he abandons the cart already filled with food and chases after his buddy.
No luck, and no turkey was here at the market as he sadly walks home with an empty stomach. Dwayne sighs to himself as there was nothing he can do. He mumbles to himself, "Guess I'll order a pizza once I get home...." He looks down as he walked through the empty streets. His hands were inside his hoodie's pocket so he can keep himself warm through a windy night. Leaves were flying all over the place and he walked at a fast pace so he could meet up with Kelly for one more time for the night. He lifted his head up as he looks at the other houses. He sees the families inside their home, eating their Thanksgiving dinner. It looked so good, so good that his stomach growls once more. Dwayne hugs his stomach to make it quiet and continues to walk. He sees more houses enjoying their meal and then sees the turkey as the main course. "Man...." Dwayne mumbles to himself, wanting to eat some turkey so badly right now. His walking pace went slower as he observed the streets even though there was nothing really to see.
Gerry and Pete were kicked out of the store for causing such a ruckus. As they left the scene, people could see the food all over the place, customers in distressed, and the employer's anger towards the duo.
"Ah, who cares about that store? There is like a billion more stores we can head off to anyways." Pete rubs his shoulders and cracks his back a bit.
Gerry chuckles as he rubs his wrists. " I know right? That store is nothing between all the other super markets that we can go to. Besides, we have most of the stuff we need at home, we were just messing around."
Pete laughs with him. " I know, all we were there for was to save up after Thanksgiving since we are going to eat up like mad piggies after starvation." Gerry laughs with him. "True to that." They both laugh at each other stupidity, not really caring that they were kicked out.
They were walking along the streets, having some time to kill before they both go home. Gerry sees a Poultry farm nearby and pokes his buddy.
"Huh wha-" Gerry points to the farm and Pete looks at him funny.
"So? It’s a poultry farm. Why do you ca-"
Gerry whisper something in Pete's ear which makes him grin. "Ah, I got ya now. Let's go." They head off the the poultry farm to get one more thing on their list.
Dwyane makes it home and opens the door, seeing Kelly on the kitchen table waiting for Dwayne. Kelly looked as lovely as ever, wearing a plain dark green dress. She was wearing a bow on the back of her ponytail and smelled like cotton candy. Probably from the perfume she found at the home.
"What took you so long?" She says with a hint a annoyance but it was hidden with a sweet tone.
Dwayne looks away, put one hand behind his back and laughs. "Nothing special Kelly, just wanted to walk around the neighborhood to get some fresh air.."
He gives a nervous laugh but Kelly wasn't buying it. "Just have a seat and let's eat."
Dwayne listens to her and sits down. There was four chairs at the table, Dwayne sitting in the far left while Kelly was sitting in the far right of the table. They both say a little prayer, giving their thanks before eating their meal.
While Kelly was eating, Dwayne just stares down at his own plate of food. He was feeling disappointed that he did not made the perfect meal, so he attempted to cheer himself up by putting positive thoughts in his mind.
“Hey, you made a disaster of meal while spilling spices and wine all over his dream girl. Not only the fact that you nearly burn down the house down, but my mother had to save me from my own mistakes. I could not find the turkey because of my poor timing, but this was not the worst night ever right?”
She notices that Dwayne was not eating.
"Anything wrong there Dwayne?"" She tilts her head out of confusion as she wipes her mouth with a napkin.
Dwayne sighs and looks at her for the moment before looking away for the moment. He then looks back at her, " I just....I just wanted to make this good....I was not able to cook the food right....make the table right...to make you happy....or that I could not even bring everything to the table.....I just wish I was able to do things fine by my own without messing anything up...an-"
Kelly stares at him with empathy for a moment and hushes him by getting up. She leaves the kitchen and went into the living room and gets something before coming back into the kitchen. "Cover your eyes Dwayne." as she told him what to do. He becomes confused and asks why, but Kelly goes behind him and puts the gift behind his right ear. She made sure that the gift did not hurt his ear. “You can open your eyes now.” He looks at his right side and sees that she put one of the many roses that he bought behind her behind his ear. He touches the rose, feeling soft and gentle, like the facial expression Kelly is giving off right now. "Now listen here, this dinner is going wonderfully. There were mistakes, but it was fixed. You are giving all your effort to make this day to make it go out perfectly just cause I was coming. It's a very sweet gesture and I enjoyed every moment of it. There is no need to worry no more alright?" She gives him a kiss on his cheek as she walks towards the door grabbing her things. "Besides it’s getting late. I must go home to spend time with my family. See you later Dwayne and I do hope we are able to meet again." She walks out of the door and heads off home.
Dwayne sits there, unable to move while his whole face was hot. He didn't know how to feel at all. He was so excited that she kissed him on the cheek, but at the same time, he was sad that she left so soon. He was mad that he did not kiss her back and gave his true feelings about her, however he felt determination going through his body. He felt like he had a chance to be with her. A chance to be with the hottest girl in the entire school...no...the entire world, and he will do anything to make sure he will win her heart. He slowly walks up and heads to the door. He walks out of the door, having the lovey dovey sensation towards his one true love. He tries to look for her to express his true feelings to her, but he could not find her. As he looks for her, a loud a noise could be heard from outside. A lot of gobbling noises and screaming can be heard. Dwayne was too distracted to pay attention to the noise but his neighbors had heard. They were trying to tell him to move out of the way but Dwayne didn't listen.
